Dear FOSD, I am a former pupil at St David's (I left in year 11) and also have experience of St James school as until recently I used to date someone from the school.
From my experience of the atmosphere and ethos of the chool and the home life of those who attend there; I question whether his is a healthy environment for school children and I believe that it s certainly not a suitable merger for St David's. I am shocked and isturbed after having read about the philosophy of St James itself and the School of Economic Science (which I was not fully aware of until the ast few days) that the governors of St David's have chosen this as a etter option than the charity who were offering St David's. I was articularly worried that the St David's' website claims that they believe the ethos of the school to fit closely to that of St James' - a school accused of criminal abuse to children over a 10 year period.
Parents need to be aware of the nature of St James - as the Channel 4 report from 2006 n the abuse of students states - it is 'not an ordinary school', I would hate for anyone to be under any illusions about this. strongly recommend that the governors reconsider their decision oncerning the 'merger'. In the meantime, as a former pupil and as someone who has insight into St James I feel obliged to bring this to everyone's attention. I feel trongly that parents of students young enough to still attend the school once it is run by St James are fully aware of the nature of this 'cult' school and are not misled by its attractive front - as a school led by philosophy. I am deeply concerned by this news and I am glad to see that you have raised such worries on this website and posted links to relevant sites. If I can be of any more help please let me know. Good luck to St David's.
